I wake up every day and I see it. I see the hunger. It is as though the sun rises only to illuminate a new way for us to take from one another. I do not look at the map of the world and see nations protecting each other. I do not even see true alliances. I see eyes constantly scanning the horizon for weakness. I see us looking at those who are defenseless and convincing ourselves that it is acceptable to take their sovereignty. We tell ourselves it is necessary to take what they have—their land, their resources, their dignity—just so we can stockpile it for our own people. We have completely forgotten the art of sharing resources to solve actual problems.

Instead of leading, instead of truly protecting our own by giving them the brutal, honest truth they need to survive, we hoard. We keep the wealth and the knowledge locked away. We treat our own populations like children who cannot handle the reality of the situation. But the reality is that without this truth, without seeing the urgency of what is happening, this entire civilization is going to come apart at the seams.

And what frightens me the most is that I see a world where no one truly knows what is going on. We are walking through fog. We hear only what we are allowed to hear. We see only what is placed in front of our eyes. Everything is filtered through these blindfolds that we have accepted. And we accept them because they give us a false sense of security. We have bought into a lie. We believe that if we just keep our heads down, if we work hard, if we build our own little empires, we will be safe. We think that if we make enough money for ourselves and our families, we have succeeded.

We allow the ones in power to continue doing what they are doing because we are hiding from it. We don’t want to look at it. We assume that they will take care of us. We have convinced ourselves that they have to be tyrants. We tell ourselves this story that without a leader who is a monster, we won’t survive. We think the sharks will eat us if the captain isn’t willing to throw us overboard first. But that is not true. It is a lie we tell ourselves to make the cowardice feel like wisdom.

The truth is actually the opposite. The truth is that if we actually worked together, if we actually stopped lying to each other, if we started doing things for the public good instead of for the glorification of a few powerful people, we would be unstoppable. But we don’t do that. Instead, we treat the public as mere servants to the establishments. The people are just cogs in the machine, fuel for the fire. We do not hear what they are suffering from. We do not listen to what they actually need.

We have built a maze for them. We keep them moving. We keep them seeking, keep them running after the next carrot, all while we distract them from what is really happening around them. We have conditioned them not to ask questions. We have made it so that asking a question is the ultimate sin. In this life, curiosity is stopped in its tracks. It is viewed as disrespectful to challenge the narrative. We have been taught that seeking the truth is creating chaos. We are told that peace means silence.

But truth is not chaos. Truth is the birthright of anyone who is sovereign. It is not something that needs to be begged for. It is not something that should be granted as a reward for good behavior. It is something we are all born with. It belongs to us.

I speak all of this because I hold onto a sliver of hope. I hope that somebody out there reads this and feels something crack open inside them. I hope that just one person opens their eyes and their ears enough to wonder. I hope they wake up long enough to see just one truth: that we need to wake up.

We need to look up from the maze. We need to stop staring at the ground and look at the ones holding the leash. We need to ask these questions. We need to care. Our lives depend on it. Our children’s lives depend on it. And the lives of those in other places, the ones who aren’t as fortunate as us, the ones who are being crushed under the heel of this machine—they depend on it too.

We should have love back in everything we do. We need to put the heart back in the center of the room. The heart isn’t a weakness. It is not a soft, fragile thing that needs to be protected behind walls of logic and steel. The heart is the one thing that is the hardest to uphold. It takes immense courage to feel. It takes immense strength to care when it is easier to be cold.

So many of us get told the opposite. We are told that the right direction is to shut off the emotion, to harden ourselves, to be “strong.” But that is not the way. It really isn’t. And that is the lie we are sold. That is what has been implanted in us. That is the fear they use to push out the love. They want us to believe that love is a liability, but I am telling you, without it, we have nothing. We are just empty kingdoms waiting to fall.
